Holy Fire in Darkness

Done at the "encounter" worship service on Jan 31, 2019 with Open Space Church, the painting by Holly Hope is based on the idea of God's presence being in the holy of holies in the old ancient temple, which is windowless, a space of complete darkness. In the wilderness, it says in Exodus, God guided the people with a pillar of fire by night. Now that God's presence was seen as more immanent in the holy space, yet still dark, the two images merge. But it's also a metaphor for the way we experience God, in total darkness, a warm presence when all faith and certainty are lost.
