Beliefs of Our Church

One of the core beliefs of Open Space Church is that we are made in the image of God, our creator. We are loved by our creator, and, like him, we are called to create. This is why we make art and beauty a part of our worship, outreach, and fellowship.

We value acceptance of all without judgment.

This includes . . .

  • having little money, or a lot

  • having a home, or no home

  • having a criminal past

  • having a disability

  • having a history with addiction

  • whatever your sexual orientation or identity (we accept you as you are; we will never try to "fix" you or "convert" you)

  • having little knowledge of Christianity, the Bible, or the church

  • having a lot of questions, or uncertainty about what you believe

  • whatever your ethnic background or culture - you do not have to give up yourself to be a part of Open Space

You will find at Open Space that we are from all walks of life, ethnic backgrounds, and incomes. Many of us have criminal pasts, and some do not. We have been there, and welcome you to join us on the journey.

We believe in giving back to the community

Half of what we do is giving art away for free. You can come at one of our Paint Nights (2nd and 3rd Thursdays at 6:30pm), or one of our bigger graffiti art shows. Rather than having giving back being an extra, after worship, we make it an equal part of how we live out our faith and worship - in our community and all of our lives.

Beliefs of the Lutheran Church

Open Space is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are a denomination rooted in scripture and the Lutheran tradition, with a commitment to social justice, critical thinking, and service.

Our Teachings

This church confesses the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

This church confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe

– Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation.

– The proclamation of God’s message to us as both Law and Gospel is the Word of God, revealing judgment and mercy through word and deed, beginning with the Word in creation, continuing in the history of Israel, and centering in all its fullness in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

– The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the written Word of God. Inspired by God’s Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ. Through them God’s Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world.

This church accepts the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life.

This church accepts the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the faith of this church.
